Finlay Park has officially been designated as South Carolina’s first Purple Heart Park through the Military Order of the Purple Heart’s Purple Heart Trail program. During a special presentation to City Council, the Military Order of the Purple Heart presented a proclamation recognizing Finlay Park’s inclusion in this national initiative dedicated to honoring Purple Heart recipients and preserving the memory of their sacrifice and service to our country.

About the Purple Heart Trail
The Purple Heart Trail program began in Mount Vernon in 1992 with the mission of creating a nationwide network of roads, parks, monuments, and communities that pay tribute to recipients of the Purple Heart Medal.
By becoming part of the Purple Heart Trail, Finlay Park joins communities across the nation in recognizing the courage, valor, and sacrifice of those wounded or killed while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

The Military Order of the Purple Heart is dedicated to honoring and supporting the brave men and women of the armed forces who have received the Purple Heart Medal for their acts of valor and sacrifice in defense of the nation.
